New Chapters!
Like any artist; I've always been one. Or maybe I should say, like most artists. I drew on walls, windows, myself, my siblings..anything that might take ink. My signature was usually a side view portrait of a face done almost completely in one satisfying stroke, a prancing horse, or a myriad of daisy links..swirly ques were a favorite mark. We lived in a somewhat humid climate on Vancouver Island and to my delight our large kitchen windows were often fogged up. A perfect canvas for my fingers. My chore was usually to windex the windows once the fog cleared up.
Fast forward many years and I am falling back to this wonderful comfort zone just to see what happens. I love to draw. I love to paint. I love children's books. And maybe most importantly, I love to learn. It seems that becoming an illustrator of children's books might be a natural progression.
I've been taking several small courses online..most notably, from the site SVSLearn. They are really a wealth of information if, [moi] you don't know where to begin. There are others, Schoolism..another super resource.
Google is my friend. We all have a virtual sea of information at our fingertips and we can have quick access to all that we might want to investigate.
It's overwhelming. It's exciting. It can also be hugely distracting and hard to stay on course. That's my eternal struggle.
Right now I'm working on developing a portfolio. I did have a portfolio review done today..I cringed through much of it, but in the end, I feel bolstered and eager to get at the weak spots and add more of what was good.
This is a maiden post! See you next week~
